Curriculum
The Arnot Health Fellowship in Cardiology is the first cardiology fellowship accredited by the AOA in New York State. Our mission is to provide the trainee with a strong foundation in the clinical and procedural skills required to practice adult cardiology and to pursue a career in cardiovascular research. Our aim is to foster impeccable clinical judgment, professionalism and interpersonal skills, while developing techniques to hone these skills throughout a rewarding career as a leader in cardiovascular medicine.
On this rotation, the fellow will learn how to evaluate and manage patients with acute coronary syndromes, including cardiac arrest and cardiogenic shock, cardiac dysrhythmias, congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, myocardial and pericardial heart disease, and aortic and hypertensive emergencies. The fellow is expected to develop expertise in preoperative evaluation and perioperative cardiac management. Rotations include:

Arnot Ogden Medical Center - The Arnot Health Heart and Vascular Institute has the most advanced technology and cardiac and vascular facilities in the Twin Tiers and operates under patient care and safety protocols developed with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Our outstanding surgical faculty have appointments at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City, and Columbia surgeons' provide monthly specialist services at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. The Institute has achieved the highest treated STEMI average in New York State with a door-to balloon time of 66 minutes or less.
Columbia University Medical Center - A recognized leader in providing excellent patient care, CUMC is affiliated with major hospitals in New York City, including NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center is enjoying substantial growth and laying the groundwork for an exciting future. In 2010, the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Heart Center opened its doors. The heart center delivers a full range of cardiac care in its six-level, 140,000-square-foot facility, including vascular ultrasound, cardiac catheterization and an expanded ICU/CCU. It features eight new operating rooms, two new cardiac catheterization labs, 20 new intensive care unit beds, and a new diagnostic center. The Heart Center boasts the latest technology available in cardiac care, enabling the physicians and surgeons of New York-Presbyterian/Columbia to provide patients with access to the most current approaches for diagnosing and treating heart disease. - Interventional cardiology laboratories where less invasive procedures are performed for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease
- Non-invasive imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomographic (CT) angiography, 3D echocardiography, and cardiac positron emission tomography (PET)
- Surgical and non-surgical treatments for heart failure including heart transplantation
